BMW continues their push to add the iOS app experience to drivers of its luxury cars through its BMW Apps option. The company has announced tie-ins with four iOS apps. The apps are: Audible, Glympse, Rhapsody and TuneIn.
TUAW:
Plug your iOS device into the console USB connection of any BMW Apps-enabled car, and you’re cooking. You can also connect through the BMW snap-in adapter if your car is so equipped.
The four app developers are busy making changes needed for complete integration with BMW Apps, and it could take some weeks before the apps are available for download. All of the app controls will appear on the BMW iDrive infotainment screen.
Audible allows users to download audio books and other spoken-word programs to their iOS devices. [DIRECT LINK]
Glympse is a location-sharing app that uses the iPhone’s GPS location abilities to share your location with others. The app shares your location with other Glympse users, by using the device’s existing contact list, or via a user’s social media feed. [DIRECT LINK]
Rhapsody is a subscription-based on-demand music service. Users can access more than 16 million tracks on their internet connected devices. [DIRECT LINK]
TuneIn is an Internet radio app that lets users listen to music, sports, talk, and news from more than 70,000 AM, FM, HD, and Internet radio stations from around the world. [DIRECT LINK]
BMW integration allows controlling the above apps with the vehicle’s built-in controls in BMW models from 2011 forward. By connecting a user’s iPhone via a USB cable, or by using a snap-in adapter, the iPhone can be controlled using the vehicle’s iDrive controller, wheel mounted buttons, and on-board monitor.
