iFixit’s fearless co-founder, Luke Soules, flew to Australia to be one of the first to get his hands on the iPhone 5. And in iFixit tradition, the first thing he decided to do was tear it apart so we could all have a peek inside!
After getting up close and personal with the iPhone 5 using a screwdriver, some spudgers, and a suction cup (on a first data, no less!), Soules made a number of fascination observations. Perhaps most notably, he found that the iPhone 5 is much easier to repair. In fact, screen replacements will likely take only 10-15 minutes.
The device also loses some repairability points, however, as many of the components are tied together (such a the LCD, digitizer, and front glass), making repairs more expensive over all. For the full gorey details on the iPhone 5’s guts, head on over to iFixit!
