Anyone who is into taking photos with their iPhone probably already has an app that takes panoramic photos. Some work OK, and others… Not so much. Now comes word the iPhone 5, and possibly a new iPod touch may support panoramic photos natively.
iOS developer Will Strafach, aka Chronic, on Twitter today:
[iPod Touch] “has that Panoramic photo feature enabled as far as I know. I think the new iPhone does as well.”
Strafach deleted the tweet soon after, but when a follower asked if it was deleted because he wasn’t sure about his information on the feature, he replied he removed the tweet because “apparently that was already known.”
Panoramic mode has long been a hidden feature in iOS 5, but has only been accessible through jailbreaking or trickery.
Apple hasn’t mentioned Panoramic mode in iOS 6 yet, but it could be a feature displayed at tomorrow’s event, as most of the iPhone announcements have demonstrated photographic or video recording features. Panoramic photography would be a nice iPhone 5 only feature to promote for iOS 6.
Update (9/12/2012) – The Panorama photo mode has been confirmed at today’s Apple event!
