A lot has already been said (and corroborated by multiple sources) about the next-gen iPhone, including claims that it will have a taller 4-inch screen, thinner design, and 4G LTE data support, and that production has already begun.
New claims have surfaced this morning claiming to offer additional details, stating that the device will feature Near-Field Communications (NFC) and 1GB of RAM, and that it is still on track for release this fall.
BGR Reports:
…we have confirmation that the units Apple is currently testing have 1GB of RAM, doubled from the iPhone 4S’s 512MB, and integrated 4G LTE radios. We can also confirm that NFC hardware is present in the phones as well. We’re expecting Apple’s new iPhone to be released at the end of September or early October.
The report also comments on recent claims that production of Apple’s next-gen iPhone has already begun. According to BGR, however, these claims aren’t quite what they seem, stating that the device is in the “engineering test” stage, and that production of the fanal device has not yet begun.
BGR’s track record is hit and mis when it comes to Apple rumors. Further, none of the next-gen iPhone specs listed in their report are new. NFC, 1GB of RAM, and LTE have all been claimed in the past, and the site’s production claims cast significant doubts on reports from other, more credible sources (although BGR does provide a bit of a loophole to get around this.)
This feels like little more than a rumor roundup with a minor added twist rather than actual insider information, and we’d encourage readers to be cautious about the report.
