We first got a peek at Leap Motion’s 3-D motion control software back in May, it looks like an awesome way to control a computer, and we can’t wait to see how it develops. Now comes word that former Apple VP, Andy Miller, has just been hired as Leap Motion’s COO and President.
Miller left Apple in August of 2011 after working as Apple’s VP of Mobile Advertising since 2010 when his mobile advertising company, Quattro Wireless, was purchased by Cupertino. Hiring Miller gives Leap a significant figure who’s familiar with Silicon Valley and the challenges Leap will face when marketing their product against Microsoft’s Kinect controller.
About his new job at Leap Motion, Miller said: “I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the most influential figures and companies in the technology industry, and I’m as excited about the Leap as I’ve ever been about a technology. The potential for the Leap is limitless, as it is going to fundamentally change the way we interact with so many devices in our lives. I’m thrilled to come on board and looking forward to growing Leap Motion into the technology powerhouse it’s on the road to becoming.”
As you can see in the video above, the Leap is an interesting device. Will it make it as a Kinect competitor for the Mac and PC? Time will tell.
