Business Insider and Dow Jones Newswires are reporting that all Apple retail store staff will be receiving raises of at least $4 per hour. The raises, which are based on performance, will begin appearing in paychecks around the middle of July.
Employees began learning of the raises in meetings with managers last week, according to three Apple employees in various regions across the U.S. The raises will be based on performance.
The main staff complaint during a recent internal review was wage levels, one employee said. Higher level retail staff, including the “Genius” tech support teams and the “Creative” educational teams were the most frustrated. One employee said a nearby Microsoft retail store had begun poaching employees by offering promotions and higher wages.
MacRumors reports that sales staff at Apple retail stores are currently paid between $9 and $15 per hour. Geniuses are at the high end of the pay scale, earning as much as $30 per hour. It is not known how raises will be distributed across the staff.
As a former Apple Store employee I applaud Apple’s efforts in trying to keep their staff happy. The raises will certainly help them retain the current staff, and increase employee job satisfaction.
