As of iOS 6, Apple will require any app that wants to use personal data to request your permission before doing so. This includes, contacts, calendars, reminders, and your photo library. iOS 6 will also include a privacy settings sections where you can manage controls over which apps can have access to your data.
Cult of Mac continues their leak of information and screenshots from iOS 6. Maybe they have a special deal with Apple and aren’t constrained by an Non Disclosure Agreement over what they can, and can’t show?
The new privacy section allows you to deny any app the access to your information at any time. Also, Apple allows you control over which apps and services can use your location, with greater control than ever before.
Similar actions are being taken in OS X Mountain Lion, where users will also be prompted any time an application want’s to use personal data.
It’s hard to tell if this is something Apple was planning to do all the time, or if they were pressured into it by public and government pressure. Apple’s security measures have come under increasing scrutiny by government and watchdog agencies.
