As Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference draws nearer, the usual stream of leaks and rumors is at full stride, with supposed new information about iOS 6, Mountain Lion, New MacBook Pros and Apple’s next iPhone flying out like nobody’s business.
Citing a “credible source,” Christian Zibreg at iDownloadBlog claims to provide new information about iOS 6, suggesting that there will be very few big changes to the core elements of the OS. Instead, “headline enhancements are focused on stock apps across the board.”
If true, this would mean that significant changes to the homescreen, multitasking, or appearance are off the table. Of course, considering that Apple’s built-in apps make up a lot of the functionality of iOS, things could still get very interesting.
“Basically, you wont know it is iOS 6 until you launch apps”, the sourced pointed out.
Apple apparently re-wrote iOS apps from the ground up, tapping a few new capabilities in iOS 6 to deliver groundbreaking enhancements. […] The aforementioned changes in apps have been described to me as “impressive” and certainly beyond this person’s expectations of Apple, which is saying a lot concerning the source’s credibility and connections.
We’ve already heard a lot of potential information about one of these apps: Apple’s new 3D-capable in-house Maps app. The photos app will also reportedly see a significant revamp, as well as other core apps that have not specifically been named.
This actually makes a lot of sense to me. If Apple’s next iPhone does pack a taller 4-inch screen (as rumored) redesigning the core apps will be a necessity – and if Apple is redesigning their apps anyway, revamping and adding new functionality seems likely.
While it’s a good idea to remain skeptical about claims like these, Zibreg’s report makes a great deal of sense. Apple is widely expected to discuss and preview new features of iOS 6 at their WWDC keynote on June 11th.
