The United States is no longer the biggest player in the smartphone world, according to the latest data from mobile analytics company Flurry. According to their data, China has now surpassed the United States in the number of new iOS and Android devices activated per month for the first time ever.
With February marking the first time China has ever exceeded the U.S. in smartphone activations, it will be interesting to see what Flurry’s numbers from March indicate, and whether February’s data was a one-time fluke, or represents a growing trend. I’d suspect the latter.
With numbers like this, it’s no wonder Apple is putting so much effort into expanding their presence in China (they recently signed a deal with both China Unicom and China Telecom to begin offering the iPhone 4S) – there’s a huge amount of market potential just waiting to be tapped.
