A lot has been said about Apple possibly releasing a 7.85-inch iPad mini, with most of those rumores originating from DigiTimes. The publication believes the device will be released later this year, and now points out a new report detailing alleged suppliers working to produce parts for the device.
The report cites Taiwanese newspaper United Evening News, and states that Apple will not be using Foxconn to assemble the device, but will instead call upon Pegatron, who has contributed to iPhone production in the past, as their manufacturing partner.
…Apple reportedly plans to outsource the production of the 7.85-inch iPads to Pegatron Technology, instead of Foxconn Electronics, which has been the largest OEM for the iPad lineup, said the paper.
The device will reportedly include a 7.85-inch display made by either LG, who will produce 70-75% of the displays, or AU Optronics, who will handle the remaining 25-30%.
AU Optronics (AUO) has landed LCD panel orders for Apple’s planned 7.85-inch iPads, which are expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2012, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
Apple will also purchase 7.85-inch panels from LG Display but exclude Samsung Electronic from the supplier list, the paper indicated.
While numerous rumors have suggested that such a device may be in the works, there is nevertheless no real indication that the device will actually be released, as all rumors so have have been purely speculative in nature.
