Besides finishing 2011 as the top smartphone manufacturer in the world, and experiencing their best quarter ever in the last three months of 2011, comScore reveals that Apple also took all of 2011 by storm, with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and the nearly three-year-old iPhone 3GS ranking as the three top-selling smartphones of 2011.
In addition to taking the top three sales slots in the U.S., the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS also claimed the top two spots in the EU5 charts (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy). The iPhone 4S likely would have made it into the top three as well, but its launch in many EU5 countries left it much less time to gain traction than in the U.S.
It seems pretty remarkable that even the iPhone 3GS, which is now nearly three years old, was able to outperform devices like the Samsung Galaxy SII and HTC Evo 4G in total sales. Clearly Android is winning (Boom!)
The report also mentions a variety of other statistics, such as the surge in mobile app sales, the global rate of smartphone adoption, and more. You can download and read the entire report for yourself over at comScore’s website.
