WinZip has been an extremely popular file compression tool on Windows for many years. There’s even a version available for the Mac, although it hasn’t been as popular as other alternatives. And now the creators of WinZip have released an official WinZip app for iOS.
The app doesn’t provide quite the same experience on iOS as it does on a Mac or PC, mainly due to iOS having a closed file system, but it does allow you to open Zip files attached to emails, browse the contents of Zip files, and more:
- Open Zip files and Zip attachments from email
- Browse and view Zip files, including multi-file attachments
- Open encrypted Zip files
- Copy the contents of Zip files to the clipboard
- View Zip file attachments from webmail (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc)
It’s pretty awesome to see WinZip come to iOS at all, even if it’s not actually able to create archives. But hey, for the unbeatable price of FREE, it packs a pretty awesome punch. WinZip for iOS is available immediate through the App Store (link).
