Representatives from Change.org and SumOfUs.org staged a global protest today against fair labor concerns at Foxconn, Apple’s manufacturing partner. The groups delivered petitions with over 250,000 signatures to Apple Stores in major cities across the world, including London, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
The petitions urge Apple to pressure their suppliers into improving working conditions in, and for Apple to follow the same labor standards that they follow in the U.S., including allowing for third-party audits of work environments.
The protests are in response to increased media attention to the harsh working conditions that exist in the factories that Apple contracts to assemble their devices. Apple has reportedly been very civil about the matter, uneventfully accepting the delivered petitions at Apple Stores wherever they are presented.
