Earlier this week we showed you a new ultra-realistic Steve Jobs action figure set to go on sale next month. Apparently Apple isn’t very happy about that, however, as the company is now threatening to sue Chinese manufacturer In Icons to prevent it from going on sale.
According to The Telegraph, Apple issued a cease and desist letter to In Icons demanding that the stop selling the 12-inch action figure, although no sources are cited by the report. Apple’s letter reportedly stated that “any toy that resembles the technology company’s logo, person’s name, appearance or likeness of its products is a criminal offense.”
Apple has taken similarly strong stances before on similar products, such as a previous action figure available from M.I.C. Gadget in late 2010 which was pulled just hours after it went on sale.
In Icons’ ultra-realistic action figure was set to begin shipping in February for $109.99. In Icon has responded with the following statement:
Steve Jobs is not an actor, he’s just a celebrity… There is no copyright protection for a normal person. Steve Jobs is not a product… so I don’t think Apple has the copyright of him.
