Following this morning’s announcement that over 100 million apps have been downloaded from the Mac App store, The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple brings up a very interesting point – those are unique downloads, and don’t include updates or OS X Lion.
Considering that these are unique downloads, that likely makes Apple the largest single software distributor in the U.S., especially considering that boxed software sales in the U.S. are barely over 50 million copies.
It would be especially interesting to see the OS X Lion downloads figured into the final number as well, as I’m sure that would make the numbers even more impressive.
Despite early skepticism regarding the Mac App Store, it appears that the Mac App Store has been incredibly successful, and will likely continue its success for years to come.
