The iPad just got even more exciting! OnliveFans.com reports that OnLive, a cloud-based streaming game service, has announced the release of the official OnLive client for iPad, bringing console-quality gaming to iOS.
OnLive, Inc., the pioneer of cloud gaming, announced that it is bringing console-class gaming to tablets and phones with the revolutionary OnLive app for tablet and mobile platforms. The latest, top-tier, high-performance games—previously limited to only consoles and computers—will be available for instant play via the free OnLive app on over 500 million mobile devices over Wi-Fi or mobile networks in the US and UK.
OnLive is able to bring console-quality games to a wide variety of platforms, including Macs, PCs and tablets. The way the service works is that OnLive runs the game from their remote servers, which do all the processing. Onlive then remotely streams the game to your device while interpreting your commands. The result is a real-time console-quality gaming experience on nearly any system, regardless of its processing power or graphical abilities.
According to OnLive, 25 console-quality games have so far been adapted for the iPad’s touch controls, including LEGO Batman and Rockstar’s LA Noire. In addition to touch controls, games can also be played using OnLive’s $50 universal wireless gamepad.
Also, as is usual with OnLive’s service, games purchased on one OnLive device can be played on any other device, and game data is synced with OnLive’s servers.
OnLive for iPad should be available sometime today as a free download, and iPhone support will be added to the app in the near future. While the app is free, however, users must still either pay for games, or subscribe to OnLive’s subscription PlayPack service.
Finally, to make matters even more exciting, Onlive will be giving Lego Batman: The Videogame as a free bonus for anyone who downloads the OnLive app and connects to the service:
