How To: Auto Focus & Exposure Lock In iOS 5

With any digital camera, especially a point and shoot you may find the need to lock the focus and/or exposure point to ensure the photograph is captured in the way you intended.

To do this simply launch the Camera app and upon taking a picture tap and hold on the specific area of the frame that you would like the focus/exposure to be locked at.

You will notice when the focus/exposure has locked into place that the blue border will flash indicating you can now lift your finger from the screen.

You will know when the lock is in place by looking toward the bottom of the display and the text ‘AE/AF Lock will appear as shown below:

To remove the focus/exposure lock simply tap anywhere on the display. When you leave the Camera app the lock will also be removed.

The lock will not be removed after you have taken a photograph thereby giving you the ability to take another similar shot.

Please note this also works for the iPad.
