Apple has issued a press release announcing that the company has named Arthur D. Levinson as chairman of the board, replacing the role that Steve Jobs held just before his passing. Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney, has also been added to the board.
The press release emphasizes that Levinson has been co-lead director of the board since 2005, and has also served on all three of the board’s committees. He’ll also continue to serve on the audit commitee.
Iger had a long-standing relationship with Steve Jobs and the company he co-founded. Additionally, Tim Cook spoke highly of Levinson, stating:
Art has made enormous contributions to Apple since he joined the board in 2000. He has been our longest serving co-lead director, and his insight and leadership are incredibly valuable to Apple, our employees and our shareholders. […] Bob and I have gotten to know one another very well over the past few years and on behalf of the entire board, we think he is going to make an extraordinary addition to our already very strong board.
Apple’s current leadership seems confident in Levinson’s appointment to the role. For more information, check out the entire press release over at BusinessWire.
