Following reports from yesterday detailing a hidden panorama mode in the iOS 5 camera app, a simple tutorial has been developed by RedmondPie to show you how to enable the new mode on your own iOS 5 device – without jailbreaking!
The app can be activated a little easier using a jailbreak tweak called “Firebreak,” but for those who choose not to jailbreak, or those who can’t jailbreak because they have an iPhone 4S, following these simple steps will have you snapping panoramas in no time.
Step 1: Download and install the free trial of iBackupBot for OS X.
Step 2: Open iTunes, and manually back up your device by right-clicking the device in the left-hand column in iTunes, and selecting “Back Up.”
Step 3: When the backup is complete, open iBackupBot, and navigate to Library/Preferences and open com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist. If you see a warning message, ignore it and click cancel – it’s because you’re using a free trial.
Step 4:Add EnableFirebreak
right below DiskSpaceWasLow and click the disk icon to save.
Step 5:Quit iBackupBot, and restore your device using the backup you just created (and just edited with iBackupBot).
That’s it! If you followed the steps correctly, you’ll now be able to access panorama mode in the iOS 5 camera app. To use the panorama mode, open up the options in the Camera app, and you’ll see a setting for the mode right next to Grid and HDR.
Be warned, however, that while the panorama mode works, its anything but polished, which is likely why Apple hasn’t officially enabled it yet.
