The teardown reveals several interesting facts. First, the iPhone 4S includes only 512MB of RAM rather than the 1GB of RAM that had been previously rumored. While this probably won’t significantly affect the 4S’s performance, it does seem to be worth noting.
The 4S also includes a new Qualcomm baseband chip that has never been seen before in the wild, and its unclear how it varies from other similar baseband chips that are in more widespread usage. The new chip can support HSDPA data at speeds of up to 14.4Mbps.
The battery is also worth noting, as it includes an additional 0.5Wh of power than the iPhone 4’s battery, which is likely part of the reason behind the iPhone 4S’s improved battery life. There’s lots more to see in iFixit’s full teardown, so if you can stomach a bit more gory gadget porn, head on over to iFixit to see the iPhone 4S revealed in all its glory.
