Suing Apple seems to be the popular thing to do these days – VIA Technology is now suing Apple for patent infringement, reports Bloomberg, claiming that they violated three of VIA’s microprocessor patents with their custom A4 and A5 processors found in iPhones, iPads and the iPod touch.
According to VIA’s complaint, filed yesterday with the U.S. District Court in Delaware, “The products at issue generally concern microprocessors included in a variety of electronic products such as certain smartphones, tablet computers, portable media players and other computing devices.”
The complaint seeks a jury trial, and to prevent Apple from selling any products covered by these patents, although the actual details of the patents (or how Apple may be infringing on them) has not been made public.
VIA Technologies has been in the business of producing motherboard chipsets for years, and stands as the world’s largest independent manufacturer.
