Apple may be about to launch 2 separate iPhone models – a lower-end model that looks like an iPhone 4, as well as a redesigned teardrop-shaped iPhone 5, reports 9to5Mac. The iPhone 5 is also reportedly experiencing design and production issues, and may experience delays or shortages well into 2012.
The report indicates that the teardrop-shaped iPhone 5, which will feature a larger screen and a thinner, rounder body (as was rumored back in April) is seeing significant production delays on at least one assembly line, leading to speculation about possible delays or shortages of the device.
From 9to5Mac:
The iPhone 5 itself is a sight to behold, we’ve been told. It is impossibly light, yet much firmer than Samsung Galaxy phones which are backed in plastic. The camera rivals point and shoot cameras and will be a major marketing point for this device.
The report also suggests that the next-gen iPhone will be available in both prepaid and post paid plans. Leaked parts such as a back panel and case assembly and an antenna and frame assembly have already surfaced showing various supposed components of a next-gen iPhone resembling the iPhone 4
Apple is expected to hold a media event announcing the iPhone 5 later this month, and reports have suggested that pre-orders for the iPhone 5 could begin in late September, with the release widely expected to occur in early to mid October.
