Belkin has just shown off a prototype of their upcoming Thunderbolt Express Dock at the Intel Developer Forum. The new dock will feature similar expansion abilities as Apple’s Thunderbolt Display without the large attached screen.
The new dock will include gigabit Ethernet, Firewire 800, three USB ports, and an additional Thunderbolt port to use for daisy-chaining additional devices. The clamshell-like design appears as though it would sit nicely underneath an iMac or an Apple display while it’s brushed aluminum exterior matches nicely with Apple’s design aesthetic.
Belkin has not provided any details on pricing or availability for the new Express Dock. As cool as the idea is, though, I hope it arrives sooner rather than later.
The real question is: will Belkin include a Thunderbolt cable with the dock, or make you buy one for $50 from Apple?
