On September 7, 2005 (exactly six years ago today), Steve Jobs took the stage in San Francisco at a special Apple Music event to discontinue the iPod Mini and introduce the iPod Nano. In honor of the iPod Nano’s 6th birthday, watch Steve Jobs take the stage to introduce the “impossibly small” iPod Nano to the world.
The 1st-generation iPod nano was thinner than a number 2 pencil, and carried on the tradition of “1,000 songs in your pocket.” The Nano ditched the mechanical hard drive in favor of Flash memory – a move that would become very important for Apple and work its way into almost all of Apple’s product lines.
Apple’s 1st-gen iPod nano was initially available in either black or white, and 2GB and 4GB models A 1GB iPod Nano was later released on Feb 6, 2006.
