You may recall our report from last week that another iPhone prototype had been lost in a San Francisco tequila lounge. PC Magazine now reports that, based on that event and other factors, Apple is getting more serious about security, and plans to hire new product security managers.
The report is derived from two identical job listings posted by Apple seeking managers of new product security to work in Apple’s Cupertino office.
The job description for the manager of new product security is as follows: “for overseeing the protection of, and managing risks to, Apple’s unreleased products and related intellectual property.”
This year’s lost iPhone prototype follows an even larger story from last year in which a prototype iPhone 4 was supposedly left in a bar by an Apple engineer, and later sold to Gizmodo, who exposed the device and later faced legal proceedings.
I suppose it’s for the best – I guess after losing two high-profile prototype devices in as many years, it seems clear that Apple employees just can’t keep their prototype devices to themselves.
