Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will boast “significant design changes,” according to a report by The Information‘s Wayne Ma.
Apple’s two top-end iPhone 17 models will be the first flagship iPhone models to have an aluminum frame since the iPhone lineup was first divided into Or and non-Pro models. Lower-end iPhones, like the iPhone 16 and iPhone SE have been equipped with aluminum frames, Before the iPhone 15 Pro, high-end iPhones used stainless steel frames.
Current top-end iPhones now boast a titanium chassis, which Apple heavily promoted as one of the differentiating features of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Now it appears Apple may be planning to return its entire iPhone lineup back to aluminum frames.
Ma also says the backside of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a part-glass, part-aluminum design. He says the top half of the iPhone’s backside will be made of aluminum, while featuring a “rectangular camera bump made of aluminum rather than traditional 3D glass.” Meanwhile, the bottom half will continue to be made of glass to support wireless charging.
The new, aluminum camera bump of the iPhone 17 Pro will also apparently be larger than that of previous models.
This report has a good chance at panning out, as The Information has a good track record when it comes to publishing accurate Apple rumors. However, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are not expected to launch until the fall of 2025, so things could change between now and then.
