Apple Appears to Have Dropped Its Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

Apple Appears to Have Dropped Its Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

Apple is apparently discontinuing its Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter that it released alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, according to a report by MacRumors.

The Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter is listed as “sold out” and store pickup is “currently unavailable.” The MacRumors report say the adapter remains available from Apple in only a handful of countries, such as France, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. This availability will likely change after those countries once remaining inventory is depleted.

We saw a similar situation occur with the SuperDrive USB-powered CD/DVD drive back in October, which sold out on Apple’s online store, first in the U.S. and eventually around the globe.

The Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter was included in the box with all iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and iPhone X models. However, Apple ceased including it, as all iPhone models since the iPhone XS have not included an adaptor in the box.

The adapter has since been available in Apple’s online store, with U.S. pricing set at $9. However, it appears that the accessory’s eight-year run has come to an end.

The Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter allows iPhone owners who have a favorite pair of headphones and speakers that use the jack to use them with their new iPhone.

Apple still sells iPhone models with Lightning ports (the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE), although all those handsets are expected to be discontinued next year.
