Apple’s new iPad mini 7 will hit store shelves and be delivered to pre-orderers on Wednesday, and there will be an iOS update waiting for it when you take it out of the box. The new iPad mini is shipping with iOS 18.0, which is not the most current version of the operating center.
The iOS 18.0.1 update will need to be installed to bring the new mini up to the current version of the iOS 18 operating system. Apple has a special version of the update just for iPad mini 7 users, which will carry a version number of 22A8380. iOS 18.0.1 offers important bug fixes and security updates, so it is recommended that you update straight out of the box if you’re getting a new iPad mini.
iPad mini owners will also need to install a second update come next Monday, which is when Apple is expected release iPadOS 18.1. iPadOS 18.1 is the first version of iOS 18 that includes Apple Intelligence features. The iPad mini 7 will offer support for those features, thanks to it being powered by Apple’s A17 Pro chip.
Apple first announced the iPad mini 7 last Tuesday, October 15, which is powered by an A17 Pro chip, providing support for Apple Intelligence. The new iPad mini also offers support for Apple Pencil Pro. The new tablet’s 12MP wide back camera supports Smart HDR 4 for natural-looking photos with increased dynamic range. The iPad mini 7 is priced starting at $499.
