Apple is planning to launch iOS 18.1 with the first set of Apple Intelligence features on October 28, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
Gurman’s comments came in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. Gurman says the release date had been moved back a bit later than initially expected, as Apple wanted to take the time to ensure a smooth rollout and to prepare its AI cloud servers to handle the increased traffic.
The update will include the first batch of Apple Intelligence features for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 devices. The initial AI features are expected to include enhanced writing tools for rewriting, summarizing, and proofreading text, as well as a new Siri user interface. Notification summaries for various apps, including Messages and Mail, and a new “Clean Up” tool in the Photos app are also expected to make the scene.
Users will be forced to wait for some of the more advanced Apple Intelligence features. iOS 18.2, which is reportedly being readied for a December release, will bring Image Playground, ChatGPT support, and Genmoji for custom emoji creation. The full set of new Siri features, which includes more precise app control and personalized responses, is slated for an early 2025 release.
