iOS 18 Allows You to Use Apple Pay With Chrome and Other Desktop Browsers

iOS 18 Allows You to Use Apple Pay With Chrome and Other Desktop Browsers

Can’t bring yourself to use Safari on your Mac just so you can use Apple Pay? iOS 18 will allow you to pay with Apple Pay in any desktop web browser, be it Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or others. You can even use it in a browser running on a Windows PC. Apple provided details about this system in a WWDC 2024 coding session released today.

This will work with any website that has implemented the latest version of Apple Pay. When you use Apple Pay to checkout in a desktop browser other than Safari, a code will appear on the screen that you will scan with the Camera app on an iPhone running iOS 18 or later. This will allow you to complete the purchase on the iPhone.

Using Apple Pay in a desktop browser has previously been limited to Safari on a Mac.

Keep in mind that it will take a while for website developers to adopt the latest Apple Pay SDK, so don’t expect to see the feature immediately after iOS 18 is released to the public this fall. iOS 18 is currently in beta.
