Apple today published a support document providing information about using the company’s Vision Pro headset if you have certain medical conditions.
The Cupertino company says customers who are at risk for falls or seizures or have a serious medical condition such as a heart condition, should consult with a medical provider before using Apple Vision Pro.
Apple also says using Apple Vision Pro with certain medical conditions might aggravate your symptoms or increase your risk of injury or discomfort. These include:
- Heart conditions
- Migraines or chronic headaches
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Eye or vision conditions, such as binocular vision conditions
- Psychological conditions
- Inner ear conditions
- History of dry eyes, itchiness, or swelling of the eyelids
- Skin allergies or sensitivities
- Seizures
- Balance or gait conditions
Sounds like one of those pharmaceutical company advertisements, right? The only thing they left out is the warning, “If you are allergic to the Vision Pro or any of the components of the Vision Pro, don’t use the Vision Pro.”
Apple also says if you are pregnant, exercise additional caution when using Apple Vision Pro, due to the risk of nausea or loss of balance.
“If your medical provider confirmed that it’s safe for you to use Apple Vision Pro, use the device seated and start with a less immersive experience,” says Apple. “Use the device over short increments of time and take frequent breaks.”
Apple also warns that the Vision Pro and its battery pack could interfere with nearby electronics, including cardiac pacemakers, hearing aids, and defibrillators. If you have any of these, check with your doctor before using the headset.
If your medical provider confirmed it’s safe for you to use Apple Vision Pro, you should:
- Maintain a safe distance between the headset and battery, and your medical devices.
- Stop using the headset if you observe a persistent interference with your medical device.
Apple says to stop using the Vision Pro and consult with your medical provider if you experience any of the following:
- Symptoms related to a medical condition.
- If your medical provider confirmed that it’s safe for you to use Apple Vision Pro, but you experience severe or persistent physical discomfort, motion sickness, visual discomfort, skin irritation, or psychological symptoms.
- If you notice swelling, itchiness, skin irritation, or other skin reactions while using your device or after using the device, stop using it. If symptoms persist, consult with your medical provider.
