Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says Apple is working on a new Mac Studio, which will likely launch sometime during the second half of 2024. Gurman’s comments came in this weekend’s edition of the “Power On” newsletter.
Gurman says the upgraded Mac Studio will likely be powered by an as-yet-unannounced fourth variant of the M3 chip. Like previous generations, the new M3 chip is expected to double the components of the “Max” version, meaning that it will feature up to 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores.
Last week, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce said Apple is preparing a new Mac Studio model powered by its M3 Ultra chip for a mid-2024 launch. Apple’s current Mac Studio, which offers M2 and M2 Ultra chip options, debuted at WWDC in June 2023. Before the launch of those models, Gurman reported that Apple was already working on two follow-up machines.
While TrendForce did not mention a newly refreshed Mac Pro, Gurman believes Apple will also refresh the Mac Pro using the new high-end M3 chip.
He also added that if the M3 MacBook Air is marketed properly, it should be a hot seller, even though that may not be enough with an “otherwise muted Mac roadmap for 2024.”
