A Nashua, New Hampshire man hired to transport $2 million worth of iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices, has pled guilty to taking bribes to falsify documents and deliver the shipment elsewhere. He was arrested following an investigation by the FBI and US Postal Inspection Service and was charged on June 1, 2023.
The US Attorney’s Office, District of New Hampshire, has announced that 30-year-old Nashua resident Guangwei “William” Wu, has admitted to interstate transportation of stolen property.
Wu ran a transshipping company Hai Xing Qiao, based in Manchester, NH. A company purchased a selection of Apple products, hiring Wu’s firm to transport them to Hong Kong.
However, Wu then took a $700,000 bribe from a different Hong Kong firm, Yongfu Huo, to ship the devices to Yongfu Huo instead.
Wu told the original company that US law enforcement had seized the shipment, going so far as to forge a “Disclaimer of Ownership” document supporting his claim, including a fake federal agent’s signature on it.
Judge Samantha D. Elliot has scheduled sentencing for October 4, 2023. Hu is facing a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years, plus 3 years of supervised release. Wu will be required to pay a fine of $250,000. He will also have to repay the $2 million to the original customer.
