Apple today released a Rapid Security Response update for iPhones running the iOS 16.2 beta. The release marks the second RSR update for the iOS 16.2 beta.
Rapid Security Response allows Apple to push out important security fixes to iPhones without requiring a user to perform a full iOS update.
Apple said that the first Rapid Security Response update was “for testing purposes only and does not contain security content.” Given the size of this RSR update, this one is likely just for testing purposes also.
The iOS Security Response 16.2 (b) is available via the standard Software Update mechanism in the Settings app. It is a quick update, requiring just a couple of minutes to download and prepare the update. A quick restart and the update is installed. Actual updates including security code will likely be just as quick.
After the update has been installed, the system will show an updated version of iOS 16.2 (b). By tapping on the version number in the About section of Settings, information is displayed about the installed iOS version and the Rapid Security Response update. Users will be able to roll back the security update if they so desire.
