As expected, the new tenth-generation iPad, which debuted on Tuesday, comes without a 3.5mm headphone connector jack. This means that Apple has now removed the 3.5mm jack from all of the latest-generation iPad models it offers.
The ninth-generation entry-level iPad, which it still offers, is now the only remaining tablet in Apple’s iPad lineup with the 3.5mm connector intact.
If you still have a wired headphone you’re attached to (or that you attach to your current iPad), Apple offers a $9 USB-C-to-3.5mm adapter for sale for use with the tenth-gen iPad.
Apple has gradually removed the 3.5mm connector from its mobile devices over the year, first removing it from its iPhone in favor of the Lightning connector, then removing it (in order from left-to-right) from the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini. Once Apple discontinues the ninth-generation iPad, Apple’s Macs will be the only hardware sold by the Cupertino firm that still features a 3.5mm headphone jack.
