Apple has included Apple Pay support for third-party browsers in the most recent betas of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. The change applies to third-party browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
The change is likely Apple’s response to upcoming antitrust legislation that seeks to outlaw the practice of forcing browser developers to use WebKit.
The added support, first spotted by Steve Moser, is available in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome as of Apple’s iOS 16 developer beta 4, and other users have also noticed Apple Pay support in Mozilla Firefox.
On the latest iOS 16 beta Apple Pay works in Edge, Chrome and I assume any third party browser. On iOS 15 Apple Pay only works in Safari. pic.twitter.com/x7zV5xCuiC

Apple Pay support continues to be unavailable on the macOS versions of Edge and Chrome since they do not use WebKit. This suggests that Apple Pay support is dependent on WebKit.
