There have been plenty of rumors floating the rumors bowl about third-generation AirPods, but we haven’t heard an official announcement from Apple yet. Now a new, if somewhat sketchy, rumor this week claims that Apple will officially launch its new AirPods 3 on Tuesday, May 18.
The rumor comes via YouTuber Luke Miani and was first published by the AppleTrack website. Miani’s sources tell him that AirPods 3 are ready to ship and that Apple will announce them via a press release on May 18. He also indicates that Apple could also announce a new Apple Music HiFi plan that same day.
Miani, who we reached out to, said that new AirPods could be announced on May 18 via a press release that could also include a ‘Apple Music HiFi’ debut. AppleTrack has heard privately that Apple is planning to release new AirPods in the coming weeks.
While Miani doesn’t have an impressive track record when it comes to Apple leaks, previous reports have indicated that Apple’s AirPods would be announced “in the coming weeks.” Hits Daily Double said that its sources said that Apple is working on a new high-fidelity audio streaming plan for Apple Music that would be announced alongside the third-gen wireless earbuds.
Additionally, 9to5Mac reported it was able to find evidence in the iOS 14.6 beta code that indicates that a HiFi plan for Apple Music with Dolby Audio support is on the way.
We’ve already seen multiple photos of the new earbuds floating around on the web, so it does look like the third-generation AirPods are being readied for release.
