Some new photos and a report posted by M.I.C. Gadget appear to capture Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 while it is being manufactured. The images appear legit, and are unique in that they seem to feature an elongated home button.
The picture, shown above, displays the sight of Wintek workers wearing masks and protective uniforms working on some touch screens, which are thought to be the touch screens for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5.
What’s curious about the devices pictured in the image is that they appear to feature an elongated (and possibly capacitive touch-sensitive) home button, as well as a screen that seems larger than that on the iPhone 4. ThisIsMyNext was the first to claim that the upcoming next-gen iPhone would feature a gesture-sensitive home button, along with a new tapered “teardrop”-shaped design and a larger screen.
The image certainly appears to be legitimate, and if so, there may be some truly exciting things in store for the iPhone 5, which is widely expected to become available for retail sales on October 7th. Comments on the original posting on Weibu (China’s alternative to Twitter) seem to confirm that the images were taken at Wintek.
