Normally, we see new iPhone and Apple Watch models debut alongside each other at a September event. However, this year is the exact opposite of normal, so it feels like anything can happen, meaning this year’s new Apple product announcements will not follow the traditional timeline.
We’re quite sure any event Apple does hold will be a virtual one, similar to its June WWDC 2020 event. We’ll likely see a live stream online and then a flurry of press releases on the Apple website.
While we’ve already seen at least one leaker (Jon Prosser) claim the new iPad and Apple Watch would debut via press release during the second week of September, with an iPhone event sometime in October. But now another well-known leaker (@L0vetodream) has weighed in, and claims there will be “no Watch this month.”

@L0vetodream has been accurate in the past, providing accurate predictions about the timing of new iPhone SE and iPad Pro models earlier this year. It also scored on the name of the upcoming version of macOS (Big Sur), the handwashing feature of watchOS, and more.
The tweet jibes with a report from Japanese blog Mac Otakara earlier this week that claimed Apple is planning to hold an event in the second half of October, where it will unveil the new iPhone 12 lineup, the Apple Watch Series 6, and the much-rumored AirTags.
While it would certainly be unusual to experience a September without any big product announcements, it’s an anything-goes kind of year, so it could happen. However, as MacRumors suggests, perhaps they’ll fill in the blanks with other product releases, such as the much-rumored redesigned iPad Air, new over-the-ear headphones, or a new Apple TV. We’ll see what happens.
