Trend Micro on Thursday announced its annual Pwn2Own hacking competition will be held March 18-20 in Vancouver, Canada. Vancouver was where the contest began back in 2007.
The competition, part of the CanSecWest conference, requires security researchers to expose vulnerabilities in web browsers, operating systems, automobiles, and more. Participants look for security flaws in macOS, Windows, Safari, Chrome and other software as well as hardware.
All exploits proven during the contest are reported to companies like Apple, Microsoft, and others so that they can be patched.
Two prizes will be available for Safari on macOS, $60,000 for a sandbox escape and $70,000 for a kernel-level escalation of privileges. A $500,000 prize will be available for Tesla Model 3 vulnerabilities.
Last year’s competition saw at least two zero-day security vulnerabilities discovered in Safari on macOS.
