Microsoft has announced it will end support for its Cortana digital assistant app on the iOS platform in a number of territories starting January 31, 2020. Users will be forced to use other apps to access previously synchronized with Windows desktops from their mobile devices.
AppleInsider reports support documents on Microsoft’s support websites for Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom now include a message advising of Cortana into Microsoft 365 productivity apps. As a part of the change, Cortana for iOS and Android will terminate in the three categories.
While these regions are the only three found so far, it is possible the other regions of the world will face a similar termination of Cortana for iOS either currently or in the future. For the moment, it does look as if Microsoft will be terminating Cortana for iOS support in the United States.
While items created with Cortana will not function within the mobile app or the Microsoft Launcher from January 31, 2020, the content will be accessible via Cortana in Windows. Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks are automatically synchronized to the Microsoft To Do app, allowing iPhone users a way to access the content on their devices.
Microsoft will release an updated version of the Microsoft Launcher after the January 31 date, so the app will still be usable in February, albeit sans Cortana.
