Apple on Tuesday released the third developer betas of iOS 13, and at least one new feature has been discovered in the new beta. iOS 13 beta 3 indicates it might soon be possible to transfer data between devices via a cabled connection.
9to5Mac reports that the iOS 13 Setup app – the app that runs when you set up a new device or completely reset a device – includes new assets that indicate Apple may be working on a new way to transfer data from your old device.
Currently, to get the data from your old iOS device you’ll either restore it from an iTunes or iCloud backup. Or, you can lay your old device next to the new one, logged into your Apple ID, allowing the information to be transferred wirelessly.
9to5Mac describes the assets they found:
New assets and strings found in iOS 13 beta 3 suggest Apple is working on a way to transfer data from another iOS device directly, using a cable. One of assets shows an image of two iPhones connected to each other using a cable. It’s unclear how this could be achieved exactly given that current iPhones feature a Lightning port and Apple does not offer a Lightning-to-Lightning cable.
The publication said they attempted to make the new transfer options appear on their iOS device running iOS 13 beta 3, and running the setup process manually, but the new option refuse to appear. This indicates Apple might enable the new process in a future beta of iOS 13.
