Apple has released an iOS 12.1 update specifically for the iPhone XR. The update only applies to iPhone XR devices that have not already been updated to iOS 12.1 when it was released last week.
The update, released on Tuesday, brings iPhone XR users who have not moved to iOS 12.1 to the latest-generational release. Attempts by AppleInsider to perform a software update on an iPhone XR running last week’s version of the release were not fruitful, and suggests it will not work for early adopters of iOS 12.1.
The new update is designated as build number 16B94, up from the 16B93 build used for the earlier version of the update.
No word on what is different between the two updates, but whatever it is appears to be iPhone XR-specific in nature. Not all iPhone XR owners are seeing a prompt to update their devices, and already having 12.1 on your device doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be seeing a prompt to download.
If you have an iPhone XR and are still on iOS 12, you can update to 12.1 by going into the Settings app, tapping the “General” menu option, and then tapping “Software Update.”
