Apple on Wednesday released watchOS 4.0.1, an update for their Apple Watch Series 3. The update fixes a Wi-Fi bug that impacted the new LTE-enabled models.

watchOS 4.0.1 fixes issues that in rare cases were causing Apple Watch to join unauthenticated (captive) Wi-Fi networks, such as those found in public places like coffee shops and hotels, which direct the user to a web page before the network can be accessed.

Apple Watch Series 3 users can download the new update via the Watch app on their iPhone. Go to: “General” -> “Software Update.” Before attempting the update, make sure your Apple Watch Series 3 has at least 50% battery power remaining, is placed on a charger, and is in range of the connected iPhone.

Apple was aware of the issue before the launch of the new Apple Watch, and had announced it was working on a fix. Pre-release testers and reviewers had discovered the device would frequently disconnect from LTE, connecting to an unusable Wi-Fi hotspot instead.

If the Wi-Fi hotspot required users to click an agreement button before using the hotspot, as many do, the Apple Watch Series 3 wouldn’t actually be able to use the hotspot, nor would it be able to reconnect to LTE.
