Despite its many new features and innovations, Mac OS X Lion ($29.99, Mac App Store Link) does not include Front Row – the full screen media interface for the Mac. Fortunately, for those that still use Front Row, there’s a way to get it back. Read on.
Since hearing the news that Front Row would not be making an appearance in OS X Lion, Ralph Perdomo decided to whip together a little application that could bring it back.
As it turns out, getting Front Row on Lion is a matter of simply extrating the Front Row files from Snow Leopard, and then compiling it into a runnable application for OS X Lion. Here are the files that are required:
It turns out that the tweak actually works, though it does require a restart. It can even still be activated using an Apple Remote! Joy! Keep in mind that this hack is at your own risk. Personally, I wonder if Apple might revamp Front Row and re-release it through the Mac App Store. Seems a shame to kiss such a useful app goodbye forever…
