Pokémon Go is now available in the German App Store this morning as the incredible popular game begins its highly anticipated rollout in Europe and other locations. Meanwhile, yesterday’s update, which fixed a Google permissions issue, appears to be locking out some users.
While the game was initially released last week, it was a limited release, with the game’s rollout limited to U.S., Australia, and New Zealand App Stores, leaving other Pokémon fans around the world forced to wait with their Pikachu in their hand. The delay is believed to have been caused by developer Niantic’s frantic attempt to deal with the excessive load on its servers, due to the game’s incredible popularity.
Following Pokémon Go’s release, it was discovered that users who used their Google logins to sign in to the game had unknowingly allowed the game full access to their entire Google account, including email, Google Drive, and more. A fix for the issue was supplied via an update on Tuesday. However, that update is now causing sign in issues for some players.
The Verge reports version 1.0.1 of Pokémon Go bars users who have been connecting to Niantic Labs’ servers using Pokémon Trainer Club accounts — rather than Google accounts — from logging in.
The issue is apparently related to a bug in the update which causes the app to no longer send an HTTP request when users attempt to login to their Pokémon Trainer Club accounts. Players are advised to not update their app if they use their Trainer’s Club account to login to the game.
No word on when an update might be issued to fix the issue, as the company has yet to acknowledge the issue, plus, and such update would need to work its way through the App Store approval process. We’ll keep you posted.
