Apple has leased a 96,000 square foot industrial property in Sunnyvale, California which was formerly used as a Pepsi bottling plant. The deal, inked in November, but just recently discovered by The Silicon Valley Business Journal, is near Apple’s rumored “Project Titan” facility, where it is said to be home to the company’s car development efforts.

Apple leased the 96,000-square-foot industrial property at 960 Kifer Road in Sunnyale last November, according to a public document I reviewed last week. The lease wasn’t widely known, but its existence is disclosed in a loan document on file with the county clerk’s office and filed on Feb. 22.
Apple occupies several offices at a 7 building campus located at North Wolfe Road and Central Expressway in Sunnyvale. At least one building in that cluster is said to be occupied by a shell company set up as a front for Apple’s vehicle development efforts.
The Pepsi bottling plant is located at 960 Kifer Road, less than a mile from the above mentioned campus. The Journal reports it isn’t known what plans Apple has for the “warehouse style” facility with truck docks, situated on 5 acres of land.
“What’s Apple interested in doing with it? That’s unclear, though Apple’s reportedly been using some industrial buildings in Sunnyvale for its car research. An Apple spokesman didn’t immediately respond to an email. City permit records aren’t much help; the only thing on file is for a seismic upgrade submitted in January. That suggests that the building will remain and won’t be redeveloped.”
Apple has been playing Sunnyvale Monopoly for awhile now, as it has also has leased 1150-1170 Kifer, an 80,257-square-foot complex just down the street, at Lawrence. Across the street from that complex, Apple also leases 3689 Kifer Road, which is a 140,000-square-foot office building.
