In the wake of its launch of the über-large iPad Pro, Apple is spotlighting apps and games that take advantage of the tablet’s 12.9-inch display, as well as titles that take advantage of its “Apple Pencil” accessory, and more.
Apple added two new banner iPad Pro-centric sections to the App Store on Thursday. “Amazing Apps for the iPad Pro,” and a smaller section entitled “Great Games for iPad Pro.”
The “Amazing Apps” list features many apps that boast support for Apple’s not yet widely available “Apple Pencil” stylus, including Evernote, Paper, and Adobe Photoshop Sketch. Apple’s iWorks and Microsoft’s Office productivity suites are featured in the “Desktop-Class Apps” sub-section, alongside Pixelmator, AutoCAD 360, and others. A “Powerful Multitasking” sub-section lists a variety of apps, such as Outline+, Numerics, and 1Password.
Other sub-sections include “Unleash Your Creativity,” featuring such apps as iMovie, Weebly, and Enlight; “Better with a Big Screen,” which features Netflix, Hulu, and iTunes U, and the “Immersive Experiences” section with such enhanced apps as Sky Guide, Star Walk 2, and Human Anatomy Atlas.
The “Great Games for iPad Pro” area includes “Gorgeous Games,” “Fantastic Sounds,” and “Big Screen, Big Fun” subsections, which feature such games as Geometry Wars 3, Lumino City, Alto’s Adventure, LIMBO, and Minecraft: Pocket Edition. (That would be a HUGE freaking pocket! – Ed.)
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is the largest table Apple has ever offered, boasting a 12.9-inch Retina display, an enhanced A9X processor, four speakers, 4GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. Pricing begins at $799 for a 32GB Wi-Fi-only model, with a 128GB Wi-Fi-only model going for $949, and a 128GB Wi-Fi+Cellular model carrying a $1,079 price tag. The pro is available in Space Gray, Silver, and Gold.
