Apple released public betas of both iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan on Thursday. Apple had announced at WWDC 2015 last month that public betas of both of its operating systems would be made available sometime this month.
Apple released the third beta seed of both operating systems to developers on Wednesday, and while there may be differences in today’s public beta, they are likely identical to yesterday’s releases.
Apple warns participants that the platforms are in beta, so some apps may not work properly. It is not recommended to install either beta on a daily-use machine. Before installing, users should make backups of their data, in case problems arise with any apps or the operating systems themselves.
iOS 9
The iOS 9 update has so far concentrated on making users’ devices more intelligent and proactive. Siri is more intelligent, and Spotlight search is also improved . Also improved are many of the built-in apps, including Notes, Reminders, Maps, and Mail.
The new OS also includes new iPad-only features, such as spit-screen multitasking for the iPad, as well as picture-in-a-picture and a revamped keyboard.
OS X El Capitan
The release of El Capitan is intended as a refinement of OS X Yosemite, although it also offers new features, including Split View, a tweaked Mission Control, and improved built-in apps.
