Apple’s Beats 1 radio station, set to debut June 30 as a part of the new Apple Music streaming service, will feature shows hosted by a number of music celebrities. Musicians slated to host their own shows include Drake, Josh Homme, Pharrell Williams, Elton John, and more.
Some other people who will have shows include actor Jaden Smith, and Dr. Dre, one of the co-founders of Beats, the The New York Times said on Thursday. Beats 1 will alternate one- and two-hour programming blocks from the station’s usual DJs — during weekdays including Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and Julie Adenuga — with the special celebrity shows, which will be both planned and hosted by the celebrities in question.
Most of the programming details are still to come, however Elton John’s show will be known as “Elton John’s Rocket Hour,” and will play a mix of old and new music.
The station will also feature celebrity interviews, with rapper Eminem as the first guest. That interview has already been recorded, and is set to broadcast on June 30 when the Apple Music service, which includes the Beats 1 radio station, goes live.
Apple Music – announced at WWDC 2015 earlier this month – will include on-demand streaming music, the Beats 1 24-hour-a-day worldwide radio station, and Apple Music Connect, where artists can share lyrics, backstage photos, videos, or even release their latest song directly to fans.
Starting on June 30, the service will be available as a 3-month free membership, after which a $9.99/month subscription fee will apply. A family plan will also be available, offering service for up to six family members for just $14.99/month.
The service will be available on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and PC starting June 30. Apple Music will be coming to Apple TV and Android phones this fall.
